This workshop is geared toward pole teachers, prospective pole teachers, and pole students who are interested in learning more.

This 60min session led by therapist and pole dancer, Anaïs Baptiste will empower pole coaches with tips and techniques to make their pole classes safer spaces for students who have experienced trauma or use pole dance training as movement therapy.

The goal of this workshop is to give pole coaches the tools to provide a safe space for exploration, allowing participants to reclaim their bodies through pole dancing. Pole dancing students may experience an array of emotions when they practice, and as pole coaches we are not always equipped with the knowledge to help these students feel safe. We are so grateful for Anaïs to come and fill in those spaces of our training to help us become more trauma-informed coaches.

Anaïs Baptiste has a Master's Degree from the Smith College for Social Work and  is a compassionate therapist whose work is grounded in psychodynamic, relational, and trauma-informed approaches.

With experience in youth development, queer and gender-expansive communities, and supporting individuals within sex work, Anais brings a deep understanding and respect for diverse lived experiences. As a Black queer woman, she is dedicated to advocating for and celebrating marginalized communities by fostering a therapeutic space filled with laughter, validation, and authenticity.

Her practice emphasizes liberation and joy and takes a warm, holistic, and collaborative approach, prioritizing creative, non-carceral solutions that honor each client’s unique journey.

This session will begin with a brief history of modern pole dancing, and then dive into the current laws for sex workers in MA. Anaïs will describe ways pole coaches can eliminate stripper appropriation in their classes, and ways to empower their pole students to be better allies to sex workers.

Then Anaïs will dive into the topic of trauma in the body, trauma responses, words and phrases to stay away from, and how to navigate the situation if someone has been triggered. You'll leave this workshop with lots of tips to address trauma in your pole class and ways you can continue trauma informed work on your own.

This session will not require pole dancing, so wear something comfortable that makes you feel good.
